With a moderate energy level, Maltichons enjoy their playtime but also appreciate cozy moments snuggled on the couch. Their friendly disposition means they get along well with kids and other pets, making them an ideal choice for multi-pet households. Though their barking tendency is moderate, they are generally aware and alert to their surroundings, ready to respond to any unusual sounds with a gentle bark. Regular exercise, including daily walks and interactive play, will keep your Maltichon happy and healthy, allowing their playful spirit to shine.

Caring for a Maltichon is a manageable endeavor since they require only weekly grooming to maintain their soft, fluffy coat. While they shed minimally, engaging in regular brushing will help keep their coat looking its best and reduce loose hair around your home. Living with a Maltichon

Breed history

The Maltichon was developed by crossing the adored Maltese and the smart Bichon Frise. Both parent breeds originally belonged to the Bichon type of dog. The Bichon descended from a Poodle and a Barbet (water spaniel) and were used as sailing dogs. They have a long history of making great companions and have remained a sought-after dog breed for generations.

Temperament

This breed is known for having a very calm yet playful personality. They have warm demeanors and are very approachable. They are pleasant to be around and are not known for aggression. Maltichons are also known to get along well with children and other pets in the household. This breed makes a fantastic family pet and will quickly bond with its family.

Appearance

Maltichons do well with weekly bathing and daily grooming. This will help to prevent their curly coats from matting and will keep them looking and feeling their best. Many recommend using a pin brush or a slicker brush to help maintain their appearance. This breed does not require an excessive amount of grooming but routine care is important.

Care

The Maltichon does enjoy both indoor and outdoor playtime with family and are energetic. To keep them feeling healthy, a balance of meat-based protein and micronutrients, as well as healthy carbs and fats are important. Maltichon owners recommend feeding this breed two meals a day, spaced about twelve hours apart. This will help to ensure the dog is provided with the proper nutrients he needs. It is also crucial to remember to provide your dog with proper dental care. It is suggested that his teeth get cleaned a minimum of three times a week. Failing to keep his teeth clean can contribute to health issues. Although properly cleaning his teeth will take some practice to get good at, in time, this will become easier for you and your pup.

Breed Size and Life Expectancy

  • The Maltichon stands between eight and eleven inches tall upon maturity.
  • This breed weighs between nine to thirteen pounds.
  • The average life expectancy for this breed is between twelve and fifteen years.

I want to recognize Natali and her team from Pets Mart on their personal attention to my puppy purchase . I decided to buy from them again since our first dog that we purchased from them has been in great health over the past 8 years . I have had him for a week and he is developing his personality and we’ve been to the vet and they gave him a clean bill of health. I decided to take the dog to my vet that we’ve had for years in addition to the vet that pet land recommends that you go to. In both cases, they found the dog to be in good condition. No parasites, clear lungs and strong heart. I know there are many options in adopting a pet, including the shelter, but we prefer to know the background of the dog as much as possible, and have some level of guarantee from the breeder of which petland gave us both . In either case, thank you Petland team for all your help.
