When it comes to energy and exercise, the Peekapoo strikes a lovely balance. With moderate energy levels, they enjoy playful moments and short walks but are also content to curl up on the couch after some fun. While their grooming needs are manageable, consisting of weekly brushing to keep their coat looking its best, they do have a light shedding tendency that you should be prepared for. This breed proves to be family-friendly and adaptable, fitting smoothly into various living situations, including apartments.

Training a Peekapoo is a rewarding experience, as they are intelligent and eager to please, though they may exhibit some stubbornness at times. Consistent, positive reinforcement works wonders in guiding them through basic commands, especially when training starts early. Their affectionate nature ensures that they’ll bond deeply with you, offering companionship and warmth every day. Living with a Peekapoo

History

Known as one of the oldest cross-bred dogs in the world, the history of the Peekapoo dates back to the 1950s and 1960s in the United States of America when a Poodle (the French/German Water Dog) was crossed with a full blood Pekingese (the China Royal breed). This crossing came as a result of the need to create a breed of low-shedding dogs that can be owned by people with allergies and asthma.

Temperament

Talking about the breed that is devoted and faithful to its owners, the Peekapoo ranks number one on the list. This breed is a very protective dog that senses danger swiftly, and when it does; it quickly alerts the entire household through its loud and insistent barking.Β

And asides from backing to create awareness, the Peekapoo can fight for its owner with every strength in its petite body. The Peekapoo is a blessing to its owners, as its presence in a home adds warmth, comfort, and light to the home.Β

On days when you need comfort and companionship, the Peekapoo is there on your lap all the way. Overall, this breed is an affectionate, energetic, intelligent, protective, vigilant, loyal, devoted, gentle and fearless breed. On the other side, the Peekapoo has the tendency to be overly sensitive, aloof and can snap when it is extremely stressed by humans, especially humans it is not familiar with.Β

Environment

As a result of its petite stature, you can have a Peekapoo in any type of residence, either big or small. Regardless of this, it is prone to heat and it is advisable to have your Peekapoo in a well-conditioned/well-ventilated place, most especially during warm/hot weather.

Exercise

This breed requires constant and consistent exercise, and as a result of this, it is expedient that you engage your Peekapoo in exercises such as walking for a specified time frame daily. The number of minutes you walk your Peekapoo is dependent on its age and size.Β

As a puppy, you walk it for 5 minutes, and as it grows, you extend the walking duration. Also, you need to train your breed in some basic mental and hygiene training, one of which is training it not to poop in the house.Β

Grooming

The coat of the Peekapoo is a long, soft and wavy one and it comes in different colors namely; black, cream, red, apricot, grey, white and chocolate. This coat requires that it is trimmed regularly as a result of its non-shedding nature.Β

And for those who would love to keep the coat long, you need to brush and comb the coat regularly to avoid matting and knots. Also, you should clean your breed’s eyes with a wet and warm towel regularly, and don’t forget to get its nails trimmed and its teeth brushed frequently. Your breed needs to bathe at least once a month

I want to recognize Natali and her team from Pets Mart on their personal attention to my puppy purchase . I decided to buy from them again since our first dog that we purchased from them has been in great health over the past 8 years . I have had him for a week and he is developing his personality and we’ve been to the vet and they gave him a clean bill of health. I decided to take the dog to my vet that we’ve had for years in addition to the vet that pet land recommends that you go to. In both cases, they found the dog to be in good condition. No parasites, clear lungs and strong heart. I know there are many options in adopting a pet, including the shelter, but we prefer to know the background of the dog as much as possible, and have some level of guarantee from the breeder of which petland gave us both . In either case, thank you Petland team for all your help.
